The CHSAS Teen Horticulturalist Training is a 10-week series of interactive workshops focused on providing students at Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences new skills and competencies in gardening, landscaping, horticulture and pest and disease management. The training is delivered by Illinois Extension Horticulture and LFSF Educators. This course addresses several topics: botany, soil science, vegetable and fruit production, plant identification, pest identification, plant disease management, gardening and landscaping, pollinator ecology, and more! This training aims to prepare CHSAS students towards career or college pathways in horticulture, providing key skills and knowledge that can be reproduced in future educational settings or in the workforce. Students will complete ten quizzes related to each module, and after a completion of the final quiz will receive their certificate of completion.

This course is part of a free two-part virtual workshop series on native landscape design. Participants receive an introduction to landscape design with a focus on incorporating native plants and then receive individualized coaching on your own landscape from Extension Staff, Master Gardeners, and Master Naturalists.
Homework submission is required to participate in the coaching session and homework deadline must be met.
