Nick Seiter, an Assistant Professor and Extension Field Crops Entomologist at the University of Illinois, addresses the challenges of corn rootworm in Illinois and expectations for 2023, providing updates on new trait packages and their pest management implications, as well as 2022 trial results. He emphasizes the importance of stewardship and monitoring to manage resistance. Additionally, Seiter discusses re-evaluating action thresholds for soybean defoliators in the North Central U.S., highlighting the economic and agronomic reasons for updating these thresholds, the resilience of soybeans to defoliation, and new recommendations for defoliation thresholds during different growth stages to prevent yield loss.
